A WORD OR TWO FROM ME

Brrr!!! Hope everyone has been keeping warm in this Artic blast! I've been very busy the
past few weeks gathering local events from libraries, book stores and even television!
Speaking of which you can actually see me on the local cable channel (34) on The Bill
Jamison Show talking about the internet and the Jersey Shore Community Information
Bulletin!! The air dates are Tues. Feb. 4th and Fri. Feb 7th at 7 pm! I've listed them
below with lots of other fun activities to keep you busy these cold winter days! Please
feel free to let me know if you attended any of the events and what you thought of them.
Don't forget I would like to post your local happenings as well just send them before the
third Monday of the month and make the subject of you email something like event
submission so I'll be sure to mark it for submission. The next issue will be out on or
about the 17th of February so keep warm and enjoy!!

LOCAL HAPPENINGS AND EVENTS

January 22 - A free program by Dr. Richard Zabak concerning Living with Low Vision will be
presented at 7 pm at the Wall Library on Allaire Road. Call (908)449-8877.
January 23 - The Monmouth Camera Club meets at 8 pm at the Colts Neck Reformed Church,
Route 537. Program will be "personal essays" featuring member participation. The
club meets the 2nd and 4th Thursday of each month. Call(908)946-9593.
January 23 - FREE Winter Concert being performed by The Wall High School Band featuring
the Wall High School Jazz band and Wind Ensemble. The performance will include classical
to the contemporary. The performance begins at 7:30 pm at Wall High School on 18th Ave.

January 23 - The Mother's Center of the Jersey Shore will have a story and craft hour
for children of all ages from 2:30 to 3:30 pm at the Manasquan Presbyterian Church. Call

January 23 - "My Antonia" by Will Cather book discussion will be held at the
Wall Library at 7 pm. Books are available at the circulation desk. Call (908)449-8877.
January 23 - The 6th Annual School Nurse Recognition Luncheon will be held at Lance
Auditorium of Jersey Shore Medical Center from 10 am to 1:30 pm. All nurses who work in
Monmouth and Ocean County schools are invited. Call (908)776-2912.
January 24 - The New Jersey Tournament of Champions will hold its 2nd Annual Winter
Bowl Singles Doubles Bowling Tournament today and January 31st at the Showboat Casino
& Hotel in Atlantic City. Call (908)462-7945.
January 25 - A Coffee House featuring singer and guitarist Art Steinman will be held at 8
pm at Congregation B'nai Shalom in Long Branch. Cost is $18 a couple. Coffee and dessert
will be served. Call (908)229-2700
January 25 - Basics of Scale Modeling will be presented by Tom Smith of the Jersey
Shore Hobby Center at 3 pm at the Wall Library on Allarie Road. Call (908)449-8877
January 26 - Poetry in the Pub presented by Dubliner House, Red Bank from 2 to 4 pm.
Fee is $8 and you must call ahead to register. Call (908)224-2880
January 28 - Library Tours and instruction in the use of the library's automated
catalog and index will be held at 11 am and again at 2 pm at the Wall Library on Allaire
Road. Call (908)449-8877
January 29 - The Mother's Center for Monmouth County will present a free seminar
entitled Conquering the Work and Family Crunch: Stress Management for Working
Mothers" at 8 pm at the Red Bank Woman's Club, 164 Broad St.
January 30 - The movie "Great Expectations" will be shown at the Wall Library
on Allaire Road at 2:30 pm and 7 pm for no charge. Call (908)449-88877
January 31 - Shoshanna Katzman & Wendy Shankin-Cohen will be appearing at the West
Long Branch Barnes and Noble on Hwy. 36 at 7 pm to sign their newly released book,
"Feeling Light" which is a practical guide to wellness and weight loss.
February 1 - Join Metropolitan Opera Basso Jerome Hines for an evening of arias,
ensembles, show tunes and popular standards. The performance will begin at 8 pm at the
Performing Arts Center at Brookdale Community College. The cost is $15 advance or $18 at

February 1 & 8 - Relaxation Massage Techniques will be given by Marie Miczak at
Brookdale Community College from 10 am to 12 noon. The cost is $25 and you need to

February 2 - Celtic Theatre and Dinner. Enjoy a murder mystery, The Strange Occurrence
on Ireland's Eye, performed at Seton Hall University Theater in the Round. A buffet at
Cryan's and a musical welcome from the Celtic Cast will follow the show. The bus leaves
from Brookdale Community College at 12 noon and returns at 7:30 pm. The cost is $40 and

February 4 - Romantic Valentine Dinner! Surprise your special someone with an elegant
dinner you will learn to prepare with help from Suzanne DeMaria, a licensed culinary
instructor. The menu includes: stuffed filet sole, confetti herb rice, spinach au gratin
and mini heart-shaped strawberry shortcakes! The cost is $28 and will be held at Freehold

February 8 - Stress Reduction through Sound will be presented by Dorothy Sikora. The
workshop will introduce sound for relief of stress, anxiety, better focus, concentration
and awareness. The workshop runs from 9 am to 1 pm and is $25. Please call (908)224-2880

February 13 - Introduction to the Internet wil be presented by Richard Jarosz of Lone
Keep Internet at the Wall Library, Allaire Road. The focus of the presentation will be on
web page design and will begin at 7 pm. Call (908)449-8877.

RoseGardens, now's the time to consider what to do with the roses that had just surged and
made all those new branches. You might want to consider NOT cutting them, instead they can
be pegged to increase their buds so that you'll have more blooms this Spring! First
measure their height and whether they can be gently lowered to near ground level and
placed in a lateral position,if they can you're cooking! Let me know.
