I never teach my pupils. I only attempt to provide the
conditions in which they can learn.

A WORD OR TWO FROM ME
by Karen E. Jarosz
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Mr. Fiasaconaro ("Mr. Fio" as we called him). He was my 8th grade homeroom
teacher and Social Studies teacher. He was funny, honest, fair and so very knowledgeable.
He was also not afraid of students who didn't understand and students who were inquisitive
and had endless questions. He was a role model, coach and friend. He was one of a few who
inspired me to go into the teaching profession. 30 years later and I still smile when I
think of him. Why do I bring him up in this issue? Well that is because this Tuesday is
National Teacher Appreciation Day. Now I know that plenty of us have had teachers over the
years that we feared or disliked. Maybe because of the content area they taught or their
teaching style. However, I am sure if you take a moment you can fondly recall a teacher
(like Mr. Fio) who inspired you, coached you or more importantly let you know that they
cared and believed in you. This was the teacher that helped you blossom if you were shy or
helped you realize what you were good at or listened to you when no other adult would. You
see teaching isn't about the curriculum or the content material. It is not about test
scores or budgets. It is not about grades and helping students move into advanced levels.
Teaching is (in my humble opinion) about connecting with a person and letting them know
that you care about them and that they have true potential in life to make a positive
change in the world. It is about letting a student know that they mean something to you
and that they are worth it!
So if you can and you want to make someone's day this week reach out to that teacher who
made a difference and let them know....
Until May 17th remember you are where you are because of the guidance and love of at least
one teacher,
Karen

Unless you've suffered the heartache personally, it's hard to imagine the array of
emotions you experience as you hold a sick puppy in your arms at 3:00 am. There are many
sick puppies being sold in Monmouth and Ocean counties from both breeders and puppy
stores. Should you or someone you know purchase one of these bundles of love and it turns
out to be sick, you need to go to a new website dedicated solely to the reporting of sick
puppies in Monmouth and Ocean counties. The website is www.ReportSickPuppies.com

Potter Pest Control
More than just eating up all your food and being a general nuisance,
carpenter ants can cause extensive damage to your home's infrastructure, and for every one
you do see, there could be hundreds more hiding in the walls.
Carpenter ants damage wood and insulation by excavating tunnels, and
they are capable of causing more harm to your home than even termites. Fortunately, a
carpenter ant problem is entirely controllable under professional care.
