Quote of the Issue:
You're never too old to become younger.
Mae West (1892 - 1980)
---------------------------------------------------------------------
A WORD OR TWO FROM ME
by Karen E. Jarosz
---------------------------------------------------------------------
I love the Quote of the Issue! I suppose being around children all day keeps me young but
I believe it has also helped me think young. My students are caught up right now in the
season of Halloween. There is a buzz in the air about candy and costumes. They giggle
about parties they might be going to and of course the excitement of the annual Halloween
parade followed that night by the Monster Mash. I love to listen to and see the excitement
and innocence of it all. It reminds me of when I was their age and how I would put so much
thought into my costume and creating it was a week long process. I can remember going door
to door in my Brooklyn neighborhood with all my friends and shouting Trick or Treat! I can
still see all the candy spread out on the kitchen table while my mom checked it. How my
mouth would water... I still remember that anxious feeling as dusk set in and I knew I
wanted to be home before dark because it was Halloween and the spirits would be out on
this night for certain. It all comes back so quickly like a curtain sweeping closed on a
stage. I still get excited about Halloween. I like to see the costumes, share in the candy
and hear the scary stories. Yes, I still like to be home before dark, too. Guess you are
never to old to become younger....
Until November 2nd, spend some time doing something that makes you feel young again and
Happy Halloween!
