A WORD OR TWO FROM ME
by Karen E. Jarosz
---------------------------------------------------------------------
First I would like to thank the many readers that reached out to me and told me how
touched they were by last week's Word from Me. The response was overwhelming and so
appreciated! I have been doing the newsletter for 10+ years and sometimes I am at a loss
for what to write. Last week's note was completely off the cuff and it has received so
much positive feedback! So thank you for encouraging me!
Staying with the idea of unplanned moments I had a few this past weekend as I ventured
out and back on a mini vacation. My husband and I left on Thursday morning in the pouring
rain to head on our annual trip to Lancaster, Pa. We were excited and looking forward to
some fun and relaxing! Well, we got onto the turnpike and were making pretty good time
when we discovered we had a flat tire!! To add to the unplanned event, the spare was not
looking to good either! So we called AAA. Within twenty minutes a young gentleman arrived,
filled the spare and put it on in no time. Within ten minutes the sun was out and it was
clearing up! We arrived at our hotel but I knew that we needed to replace the tire before
heading home. So I pulled out the ol' Yellow Pages (next to the Gideon Bible in our hotel
drawer) and looked up Sears. Sure enough there was a Sears not fifteen minutes from
where we were staying. They had an Auto Center and had the tire in stock and on sale!! I
got directions and drove over early the next day. Now if any of you know me, you know I
get nervous when it comes to driving in places where I am not familiar!! Within an hour my
tire was replaced, the old tire removed and the spare double checked as well as air put
into all the other tires! I headed back to enjoy my vacation!
However, fate was not done with us yet! Upon starting out to head home we noticed the
gauge in the car rising as we drove along. We ended up stopping at a rest stop to check
fluids and put in some water. Yet the temperature did not get any lower. As we arrived in
New Jersey we drove into a fierce thunderstorm! We made it home safely and my car is in
the shop as I type this.

Why do I share this whole crazy story with you? It is because when I looked up randomly
the quote for this week's issue, the one I chose above is what appeared first in my
search. See throughout this whole weekend I had a choice when it came to my attitude. I
could either get very upset and ruin my weekend away or I could do what I did. I took
positive action and decided not to let the events spoil my weekend. I chose to stay in the
positive and appreciate the fact that it could have been much worse. In the end, the
positive was less stressful, humorous and showed me that I can find my way around in
unfamiliar places....
Until August 4th, always look on the bright side of things,
Karen

August! So if you have an event to include we need it by Friday at 12 noon to be

Ahh, your morning coffee. Something to look forward to, the start of a new day. While it's
important that the coffee be good, where you're having it is also important. On Saturday
April 12th, it was my pleasure to have my morning cup at the grand opening of the Barbaric
Bean on Main St. in Ocean Grove. The coffee was great, as was the food. But what I truly
liked was the atmosphere. An excellent place to linger with friends and family or just
read your favorite book. So make your way over to the Barbaric Bean. Even if the rest of
your day isn't splendid, you'll know it started off just fine.
