Quote of the Issue:

Life is what happens to you while you're busy making other plans.                                                                       John Lennon (1940 - 1980), "Beautiful Boy"

A WORD OR TWO FROM ME
by Karen E. Jarosz
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Well I have to share a recent surprise I received that reminded me of how important it is to not get so busy in making plans. As you may know from past issues I have been teaching 20+ years now and absolutely love what I do. I actually look forward to September and enjoy being with my students. Over the years I have had students come back to visit me at school. However, recently upon returning home from a day at camp I received a wonderful surprise! Three of my former students who are in high school were at my home to greet me. Now you might think "how is that a wonderful surprise?" To begin I was greeted with shouts of happiness at having found my home and me! Then I spent a pleasant hour and a half sitting on the front porch taking a trip down memory lane with these three wonderful young adults. You have to remember that I had these students in 3rd grade! Yet the thing that touched me most was the revelation that these students remembered things that I did and said that were not academically related but rather moments when I reached them on a personal level and touched their hearts by something I did for them. Little things or moments that were not planned. Now you should know that on this particular perfect 10 beach day I had my entire afternoon carefully planned out to relax because it had been a tough day at camp! Yet I guess the Lord threw me a curve ball and helped me realize that life is not about planning the next event or activity. It is about the moments especially the moments when we reach out to another and make a memory. I won't forget this lovely unplanned afternoon! The beach will be there tomorrow.....
Until July 28th, enjoy the unexpected,
Karen
PS - Remember we are now publishing every Monday in June, July and August! So if you have an event to include we need it by Friday at 12 noon to be included in the following Monday's issue. Thanks!

Ahh, your morning coffee. Something to look forward to, the start of a new day. While it's important that the coffee be good, where you're having it is also important. On Saturday April 12th, it was my pleasure to have my morning cup at the grand opening of the Barbaric Bean on Main St. in Ocean Grove. The coffee was great, as was the food. But what I truly liked was the atmosphere. An excellent place to linger with friends and family or just read your favorite book. So make your way over to the Barbaric Bean. Even if the rest of your day isn't splendid, you'll know it started off just fine.
