A WORD OR TWO FROM ME

Thanks again to FindNj for sponsoring this issue. I hope everyone had a nice
Valentine's Day. It looks as though we are a month shy of the official start
of Spring and still no real snowfall. That's fine by me. There is much to do
in the area so be sure to check out the Local Happenings, I plan to attend some
of them. One event I plan to not only attend but participate in is the Belmar
Parade Beauty Pageant on Friday at Mike Doolan's! I have never done anything
like this before so I am a bit nervous but it sounds like fun and who knows if
I win I get to ride on the float at the Parade on March 1st!! That sounds like
fun! Wish me luck and I'l let you know what happens...
I also have received some new sites to check out so look for them
under the Local Readers and Local Links section to check out some new local sites of fun...

LOCAL HAPPENINGS AND EVENTS

February 17 - The General Membership Meeting of the Southern Monmouth Area Chamber of Commerce
will be held in the Chamber office at 8:00 a.m. Guest Speaker will be Todd Leonhardt of A.G. Edwards &
Sons, Inc. There is a continental breakfast being served at a cost of $5.00. Reservations are requested and
can be made by calling the chamber office at 732-974-1151.

February 17 - At Barnes and Noble on Hwy. in West Long Branch at 7:30 PM there will be a Women's
Discussion Group entitled The Cycles of A Woman's Life with Lissa De Angelis. For more information call

February 18 - Looking for something to do with the little ones? Try learning about a neat instrument,
Mountain Dulcimer. Bonnie Leigh who is Country, folk singer, and songwriter will tell children the history
of this simple instrument, play songs, and teach them how to play a song. The fun begins at 6 pm. Call

February 19 - The Atlantic Club in Wall presents Eat to Your Heart's Content, a dicussion on the recent
research on vitamins, minerals and nutrients that prevent heart disease. The program begins at 11 am and
runs to 12:30 pm. To register call (732)223-2100

February 19 - Attention Lone Keep Internet Customers and Southern Monmouth Chamber Members: Don't
forget your FREE Training Session at 7:30 at the Chamber Office. Come and get answers to questions that

February 20 - Mike Doolan's on Hwy. 71 host the Belmar St. Patrick's Parade Beauty Pageant at 8 pm. A
Queen and her Court of 4 will be selected. Donations are $5 and guess what? This editor is entered!! So,
wish me luck....

February 20 to 28 - the Algonquin Arts Council in Manasquan presents Celebrate Broadway. Showtimes
are 8 pm weeknights and 3 pm on Sunday. Call (732) 223-7122 for details

February 21 - Join the Audubon Society as they sponsor a Winter Bird Walk at Sandy Hook. The walk
begins at 9 am at the Visitor Center. Bring binoculars. For more information call (732) 872-5970

February 21 - The New Jersey Symphony Orchestra Series Concert continues at the Count Basie Theatre in
Red Bank. Call 1 800 ALLEGRO for more details

February 22 - Georgian Court College in Lakewood hosts its Irish Afternoon. Join in the food, music,
50/50, prizes and more! The festivities run from 1:30 to 5 and tickets are $10 for adults and $7 for children 3
to 12. Call (732) 364-2200 ext. 263 for more information. This is a great afternoon as I am an alumni and
have attended this great event...

February 24 - Valerie Block will be at the Barnes and Noble on Hwy. 36 in West Long Branch for a

February 25 - The Vienna Boys Choir with perform at Pollack Auditorium at Monmouth University, West
Long Branch. The performance begins at 8 pm and tickets are $22, $20 for seniors, alumni and students and

February 25 - Today is the first day to get your reservation in to meet with Arthur of PBS fame at It's

February 25 - Calling kids to join the fun at Barnes and Noble on Hwy. 36 in West Long Branch 6:30 PM
for Animorphs Allies! A fun and exciting group based on the popular children's series. Limited to the first

February 26 - Join Joanne D.S. McMahon and Anna M. Lascurain at the Barnes and Noble on Hwy. 36 in
West Long Branch for Shopping For Miracles: A Guide To Psychics & Psychic Powers. There will be a

March 1 - The 25th Annual St. Patrick's Day Parade in Belmar begins at 12:30 pm on Main Street. Join the
fun as 40 bands, beautiful floats and pipers and dancers march down the street to celebrate! I hope to be on

March 1 - Enjoy a 13.1 mile run through rural and residential Monmouth County in the E. Murray Todd
Half Marathon. It starts at Brookdale Community College Gymnasium on Newman Springs Road. Call for

The Heart of New Jersey Chorus is a women's chorus and chapter of
sweet adelines international. There are 51 singers presently and they
are looking to grow to 65 this year. They manage to have fun while working
hard every Wednesday evening. They meet during the school year on Rt. 79 in Marlboro
and at Monmouth Reform Temple during the summer. Rehearsals are open to the public.
