Happy May! This is a big month for some. It is of course Mother's Day! It also is a time of college graduations, First Communions and wedding season begins. All of these special occasions involve a new life in some way. It is a great time of year to take in the new life around us and truly appreciate it not to mention enjoy life. So take some time and get out to a Local Happening and enjoy the good, simple life and live! Bring along someone special to share it with.
Please feel free to email me and let me know if you particularly enjoyed something or know of an upcoming event to be included.

May 6 - Meet Jodi Picoult, best-selling author of eleven novels including The Pact and Salem Falls at Barnes and Noble on Rt. 9 in Freehold. She is the featured guest of the Fiction Lovers' Discussion Group. The evening begins with a roundtable discussion of Second Glance, her captivating novel of love, mystery and the paranormal, followed by a reading and introduction of her newest work, My Sister's Keeper. May 7 & 8 - Georgian Court University will open its historic gates to the community during Welcome Weekend. Visitors will enjoy walking tours of the campus, which is both a National Historic Landmark and an arboretum site. Tours are scheduled for 10 am and 11:30 am as well as at 1 and 2 pm. Along the tour, guests will be guided through the luxurious and historic Gould Mansion, the manicured gardens and grounds, the Casino, the Catherine McAuley Chapel and the Raymond Hall Complex. Light refreshments will conclude the 45-minute tour. Welcome Weekend is open to the public for a fee of $10. Please contact the Office of Special Events and Conferences for reservations at 732-987-2263. This walking tour is comprised of outdoor walking on uneven and partially uphill paths and is not wheelchair accessible. In the event of inclement weather the outdoor portion of the tour will be abbreviated and a slide show will be substituted.

May 7 - The Center will be having its annual "a la Carte" dinner and gift auction at 7 pm on the grounds of St. Anselm's Church in Tinton Falls. There will be cabaret-style entertainment. May 8 - 34th Manasquan River Canoe & Kayak Race will begin at 8:30 am. Paddle 8 mile section of the Manasquan River. Register at the Howell Park Golf Course located on Preventorium Road in Howell. Call (732) 842-4000 or go to www.monmouthcountyparks.com

May 8 - Annual Spring Crafters' Market will run from 10 am to 4 pm at Historic Allaire Village located on Allaire Road in Wall. Call (732) 919-3500 or go to www.allairevillage.org

May 8 - Best of Broadway will be presented by Monmouth Civic Chorus. It is a a cabaret to benefit their 55th season and will be held at the Ocean Grove Youth Temple located on Pilgrim Pathway in Ocean Grove. Showtime is 8 pm. Call (732) 933-9333 or go to www.monmouthdivicchorus.org

May 11 - Georgian Court University alumna and longtime faculty member Sister Joyce Jacobs, RSM, will exhibit Watercolors featuring Georgian Court through June 6, 2004, at the M. Christina Geis Art Gallery in the Arts and Science Center at Georgian Court University. The gallery is open to the public at no charge weekdays between 9 am and 8 pm. An artist’s reception will be held for Sister Jacobs on Sunday, May 23, 2004, at 3 pm in the gallery. The public is welcome to attend and the event is free.

May 12 - There will be a blood drive from 6 pm to 9:30 pm sponsored by The Italian American Association of the Township of Ocean, 1110 Hwy 35 South, Ocean Township. To reserve a time to donate, call Felix at 732-531-8590

May 14 - Solve a murder at Murder By Trial Murder Mystery Dinner Theater at Manchester Inn located at 25 Ocean Pathway in Ocean Grove. The fun begins at 7:30 pm. This is a ton of fun! May 22 - The Shrewsbury Chorale will hold its Annual Giant Garage sale on Saturday from 9a.m. to 3 p.m. at 2806 Sunset Ave, Wanamassa. The sale will include merchandise from many chorale families: furniture, rugs, small household appliances, pots and pans, plates and dishes, clothing, jewelry, books, toys, games, sporting goods, tools, and much, much more. May 23 - "Treasures of Jackson," the first garden tour sponsored by the Green Thumb Garden Club of Jackson, will be held on Sunday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. A private train ride through a backyard wildlife habitat begins the tour of 7 Jackson gardens.
