A WORD OR TWO FROM ME
by Karen E. Jarosz
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Happy belated 4th of July!! Hope everyone had a fun and safe 4th! Seems summer is in full
swing at the Jersey Shore. There is plenty to do if you are looking for something. If you
would rather be more mellow there is plenty of that too! I recently was kidnapped by my
husband Rich and finally got to attend something I have been meaning to get to The
Festival of the Atlantic with Father Alphonse on the Point Pleasant beach (the inlet
to be exact). If you haven't had the chance to get there then set aside a Wednesday
evening and GO!! We got there early to eat the Boardwalk fare and play some games before
the concert started at 7:30. Be warned it does get crowded and you bring your own seating
but it is wonderful... We happen to be there the night of July 2nd and so were treated to
the Independence Day Concert. Let's just say it made me feel proud to be an American and I
hummed those tunes all weekend long. The performances are each Wednesday from 7:30 to
roughly 9:30 with a 15 minute intermission. Bring a blanket, chairs, snacks and friends...
It's free but donations are happily accepted and it is a wonderful way to get through a
hot summer week. For weather cancellation call 732-892-7702. Just be sure to get out there
and enjoy SOMETHING and take advantage of this great season while it is here...
I love to hear from readers to let me know what's going on and what was worthwhile...
Until July 21st, stay cool and mellow...
Karen

Health Tip from Dr. Ross
Give It a Rinse
Rinsing food from cans may help control one of the risk factors for stomach cancer.
Research suggests that a diet high in sodium may be a risk factor for stomach cancer. Many
canned foods, such as beans, vegetables, and tuna, contain ample amounts of salt. Rinsing
the foods will help cut your sodium intake. Also, look for low-sodium varieties of your
favorite canned or prepackaged foods.
