The heat is on!! The weather is now starting to feel like summer and we actually had our first official barbeque... Now is also the season for doing things outdoors and enjoying the beautiful scenery of the Shore. Hopefully you'll enjoy some of the Local Happenings I have found and let me know if they were fun. LOCAL HAPPENINGS AND EVENTS

June 17 - Southern Monmouth Area Chamber of Commerce will hold a General Membership Breakfast and Networking Meeting at Cafe Allaire from 8AM to 10AM. Members are $10 and non-members are $20. Call the chamber office for more information at 974-1151

June 17 - Lone Keep Internet will present a seminar at the Monmouth County Eastern Branch Library on Hwy 35 in Shrewsbury. The topic for dicussion is Web Page Design. Call 842-5995 for more information.

June 18 - Visit the Lighthouses of the Southern Shore of New Jersey. The trip includes "Old Barney", Cape May Point and Sunset Beach. Lunch will be "Dutch". Van Departs from Thompson Park at 8:30 am and returns at 6:30 pm. Preregistration is required and the fee is $28. Call 842-4000

June 21- The Friends of the Belmar Free Public Library will have a book sale from 9 am to 12:30 pm in the Library basement on 10th and E streets. A bag of books is $2. Come out and find books to read on the beach this summer!!

June 21/22 - Navesink River Environmental Festival at Marine Park in Red Bank. Activities include water sports and events, music and food as well as crafters and vendors. Activities start at 10 am on Saturday and 11 am on Sunday.

June 21 - Jabber, a local modern pop/folk/rock band, will be performing at Cheers, formerly The Metro Lounge, 369 Broadway in Long Branch. Show time is at 11 pm and admission is $3. For more information call 229-9186.

June 23 - The Oceanport Lions Club will have their annual Strawberry Festival at the Maple Place School from 6 pm to 9 pm. Strawberry shortcake as well as ice cream, soda and coffee will be served. There will also be a special appearance by Gitzy the Clown. Cost is $3 per person. For more information call 922-4073.

June 28/29 - Easter Seal Beach Volleyball Bash in Sea Bright. Check in between 8 and 8:30 am. Come out and support the organization that helps those who are disabled. For entrance fees and registration as well as rules call 257-662 0r 800-468-0027 or email ESSNJ@ix.netcom

June 28 - Enjoy the floral color, the winding paths and the pools in sunlight at Longwood Gardens. The cost of $29 covers admission,transportation and a park leader. Dinner is on your own and the trip is rain or shine. The bus departs at 3 pm and returns to Thompson Park at 1 am. To preregister call 842-4000

June 30 to July 5 - St. Jerome's Parish at 254 Wall Street in West Long Branch will hold their carnival. Opens nightly at 6 pm except on the 4th they open at 5 pm. Rides, food, games of chance and activities for all. Bracelet nights are Tuesday,Thursday and Saturday. Super 50/50 to be drawn at 11 pm on Saturday.

June 30 - The Summer Series begins at The Gazebo on the Boardwalk in Bradley Beach. Come on Monday, Wednesday and Friday evenings at 7 pm and enjoy live music such as waltzes, tangos and broadway tunes and enjoy the beautiful beach as well!! FREE...

July 2 - Insects and Bugs Program at Poricy Park Nature Center in Middletown. Call 842-5966 for more information.

July 3 - Enjoy the Red Bank Fireworks aboard the Crack-A-Dawn II. The boat leaves from the Highlands Marina and is limited to 20 passengers. Call Capt. Ed Moro for more info and reservations at 229-7096.

July 4 - Watch the spectacular Macy's Fireworks aboard the Crack-A-Dawn II in New York Harbor. The boat leaves from the Highlands Marina and is limited to 20 passengers. Call Capt. Ed Moro for more info and reservations at 229-7096.

July 7/14 - Stressed from running around this summer? Learn some relaxation techniques for all year at Riverview Medical Center. Sessions run from 9 am to 4 pm. For more information call 530-2417.

July 10/17 - Jazz Concerts in Red Bank by the river. FREE. For more information check out Red Bank' site at www.redbank.com or call 1-888-HIP-Town.

July 10 - Summer Concert Series at Normandy Park in Middletown. The Infernos, a 50' oriented band, perform. The concert is from 7 pm to 9 pm and all are encouraged to bring a lawn chair or blanket. In case of rain the band will perform at Middletown High School South. Concerts are free to Middletown Residents.

July 16 - The Belmar Free Public Library will host a free concert. The concert features Greg Pringle and his band, who will play tunes from today, yesterday and tomorrow. Weather permitting the concert will be held on the lawn so bring chairs or blankets. The performance begins at 7 pm. It promises to be an entertaining evening!! July 16 - Lone Keep Internet will be presenting a seminar at the Wall Library on Allaire Road. The seminar will start at 7 pm and will cover Advertising on the Internet. Call the Library at 449-8877

Looking for fun on a Saturday Night? Like Music and meeting others? Try The Varsity Club in Fair Haven where fun begins at 10 pm with karaoke and dancing! Regulars attend and it is like a social club where the fun never ends as well as the laughs...

The Heart of New Jersey Chorus is a women's chorus and chapter of sweet adelines international. There are 45 singers presently and they are looking to grow to 65 this year.
