LOCAL HAPPENINGS AND EVENTS

November 8 - An Introduction To Verdi, a Lecture/Concert by Terri-Ellen Thomas which is sponsored by the Monmouth Arts Foundation will be held at 10 am at the Eastern Branch Library in Shrewsbury

November 9 - SCAN (Senior Citizens Activities Network) at Monmouth Mall will hold a Veteran's Day Dance from 1:30 pm to 3 pm. Please wear medals & ribbons and wear your uniform if you'd like. The dance will be held in the Community Room located on the ground floor of the mall. Call 542-1326 for details

November 11 - At 8 am the "Cycle of Freedom" ride will begin. This is a benefit ride for our heroes, from the Pentagon to the World Trade Center. Meet the 11 cyclists who will ride to raise money for the families of the 11 firemen lost from Rescue 5 on Staten Island. They will be arriving in Ocean Grove on Nov. 11 between 8 and 8:30 am. They will then continue their ride to Ground Zero. Donations will be accepted at the Manchester Inn, located at 25 Ocean Pathway, Ocean Grove. Call 775-0616 or call (201) 845-5533 for information

November 11 - Veterans' Day Ceremonies will be held at 11 am at the New Jersey Vietnam Era Educational Center located at Garden State Parkway Exit 116, Holmdel. Call 335-0033 or go to www.njvvmf.org 

November 11 - Fort Hancock Veterans' Day Program will be held at 2 pm. The program is about the tragic 1958 Nike Missile explosion and will be held at Fort Hancock, Post Theater Sandy Hook Gateway National Recreation Area. Call 872-5970

November 11 - At 7 pm Natalie Mac Master, one of Celtic music's best, will take the stage at Pollak Theater on the campus of Monmouth University. She is a award winning fiddler and step dancer! Call 571-3483 for details

November 13 - The Nai-Ni Chen Dance Company, an ancient Chinese art transformed into the dynamic world of modern dance, will perform at the Count Basie Theatre located at 99 Monmouth Street in Red Bank. Call 842-9000 or go to www.countbasietheatre.org 

November 14 - Scott Vincent, naturalist and wildlife photographer, will present a program entitled "Birds of the Southwest U.S." at the Monmouth County Audubon Society's meeting at 8 pm. The meeting is held at the Trinity Episcopal Church on White Street. The public is welcome; admission is free.

November 15 - Toastmasters will be holding a meeting at the Southern Monmouth Chamber of Commerce Office at 7:30 pm. The group helps individuals to sharpen their public speaking skills. For details or directions call 988-4044 or 974-1151 or go to lonekeep.com/shorespeakers

November 15 - Bears & More Bears will be presented by Lesley Bennett and sponsored by the Monmouth Arts Foundation at 9:30 am at the Eastern Branch Library in Shrewsbury

November 17 - Join the Monmouth County Audubon Society for a morning of exploration at Island Beach State Park at 9 a.m. Anyone interested in participating in the event should meet at 9:00 am in the parking lot just outside the entrance to the park. The trip is open to both members and non-members of the Monmouth County Audubon Society, and admission is free. While there is no charge for the field trip, the State of New Jersey charges a $4 per car admission fee to the park. Advance registration is recommended, so participants can be notified in the event of changes or cancellations. To register, contact Debbie Grob, field trip committee, at (732) 751-9131 at least 24 hours in advance. Participants should dress appropriately for the weather, which can be blustery and unpredictable along the coast; wear comfortable shoes and bring binoculars and field guides.

November 17 - The Arcadian Chorale will present "Keys to the Kingdom", a concert of choral works by Mozart, Holst, Elgar, Thompson and others. The featured work will be Mozart's "Coronation Mass". Performances will be at 8 PM at the 1st Presbyterian Church on Rt. 34 in Matawan. Tickets are $10, $9 for seniors and $8 for students. November 17 - At 6 pm a Thanksgiving Lantern Tour will be held at Allaire Village. Advance ticket required. Allaire Village is located on Route 524 in Wall. Call 919-3500 or go to www.allairevillage.org 

November 18 - A 19th Century Thanksgiving will be re-enacted at Allaire Village. From Noon to 3 pm see what Thanksgiving would have been like in the 1830's. Call 919-3500 or go to www.allairevillage.org 

November 18 - The Starburst Orchestra "Gene Krupa Tribute" will be performed at 2 pm at the Eastern Branch Library in Shrewsbury

THE MOURNING AFTER, a professionally led bereavement counseling group meets
weekly at Center Playhouse, 35 South Street, Freehold on Fridays 11:30 to 1:00 PM.
Family members and victims of the recent terrorist attack in NYC are welcome to
attend. Freehold Community Counseling Service and Contemporary Counseling
Center of Marlboro cosponsor the group. There is no charge to attend. For

Monmouth Folk Dancers gather for an evening of friendship and folk dancing from 7 pm to 10:30 pm on Tuesdays. Beginners are taught the first hour There is parking behind the United Methodist Church at 247 Broad St inm Red Bank. The cost is $3. SAFETY NET: Breast Cancer Survivors Group
Monthly breast cancer survivors group designed to tap the power of the group to create a healthy network for a quality life. Professionally led. Meets 3rd Monday, 3:30 - 5:00 PM at Contemporary Counseling Center, 9 South Main Street, Marlboro. Call 732-577-1076.
