LOCAL HAPPENINGS AND EVENTS

April 4 - There will be a composting workshop offered at the Wall Twp. Library located at 2700 Allaire Rd. It will begin at 7 pm

April 4 - The next S*T*A*R (The Society of Telescopy, Astronomy, and Radio) meeting will be held at 8 pm at the Colts Neck Fire House #2 on Conover Rd. in Colts Neck. Ted Williams, professor from Rutgers University, will be our guest speaker and will detail the SALT (South African Large Telescope) project. Directions: From Rt. 520, turn South onto Rt. 34. Conover Rd. is on the right, one light South of Rt. 520. From Rt. 537, turn North onto Rt. 34. Conover Rd. is on the left, two lights North of Rt. 537. The fire house is on the right, just a couple of blocks off of Rt. 34.

April 5 - Toastmasters will be holding a meeting at the Southern Monmouth Chamber of Commerce Office at 7:30 pm. The group helps individuals to sharpen their public speaking skills. For details or directions call 988-4044 or 974-1151 or go to www.lonekeep.com/shorespeakers 

April 5 - Be a Friend! Join FRIENDS OF THE MONMOUTH COUNTY LIBRARY ASSOCIATION and participate in many activities to support your library! The meeting will begin at 2 pm. It will be held at the Eastern Branch Library in Shrewsbury. Call Frances Donowitz, President at 462-1939 for details

April 7 - A Celebration of Dance will be presented by Festive Flutes at 2 pm at the Marlboro Branch Library on Wyncrest Rd.

April 7 - Spring is officially here, and with it comes the annual migration of raptors and songbirds along the Atlantic Flyway. Join the Monmouth County Audubon Society for a spring Bird Walk to look for these migrants. It will be held at Sandy Hook. Anyone interested in participating in the event can meet at 9:00 am in the parking lot of the Spermaceti Cove Visitor's Center. The trip is open to both members and non-members of the Monmouth County Audubon Society, and admission is free. Participants bring binoculars and field guides and should dress in layers to be prepared for cold, blustery conditions. Even if temperatures are mild inland, conditions often differ along the coast

April 7 - Sandy Hook Lighthouse Season Opening for Lighthouse Tours will be held from Noon to 4:30 pm. Call 872-5970 for details

April 8 - Join in an 1830's Militia Muster and Games & Amusements at Allaire Village located on Route 524, Wall. The event will run from 1 to 4 pm. Call 938-2253 or go to www.allairevillage.org  for details  

April 11 - There will be a composting workshop offered at Ocean Twp. W. Park Recreation Center located on W. Park Ave. It will begin at 7 pm

April 11 - Wildlife photographer Patti Murray will present "Madagascar: Lemurs, Chameleons and Exotic Flora" at the Monmouth County Audubon Society's April meeting at 8:00 pm. The meeting is held at the Trinity Episcopal Church on White Street. The public is welcome; admission is free. Call (732) USA-BIRD for details

April 12 - Songs From Hollywoods's Golden Era of Musicals will be presented at 10 am. The Lecture/Performance will be given by Jodi Woolley and is sponsored by the Monmouth Arts Foundation. It will be presented at the Eastern Branch Library in Shrewsbury.

April 14 - There will be an Easter Egg Hunt on the beach in Ocean Grove. Call (800) 388-4768 or go to www.oceangrovenj.com  for more information

April 15 - The 66th Annual Asbury Park Easter Pageant will take place. Look for Best Dressed Pageant with trophies and awards sponsored by the City of Asbury Park. It is held at the Paramount Theatre 1301 Ocean Avenue. Call 775-2100 for details

SAFETY NET: Breast Cancer Survivors Group
Monthly breast cancer survivors group designed to tap the power of the group
to create a healthy network for a quality life. Professionally led. Meets

The Wall Lions Club is seeking new members. Members should be from Wall, Belmar, Spring Lake, Spring Lake Hgts, Manasquan or Brielle. New officers for this year are, President Joseph Hall, 681-6694.
Secretary Tony Grosso, 681-8010. Treasurer Bill Young, 681-9250. Also we have a new meeting place, new meeting place! It's at the "Sandpiper" Restaurant 7 Atlantic Ave, Spring Lake, NJ. Same times and days. We still meet on the 1st and 3rd Wednesdays at 7:30 PM.
