A WORD OR TWO FROM ME

Hello again! Hope everyone had a nice Valentine's Day! I have been busy looking for
upcoming events that will help you get ready for Spring which hopefully is around the
corner... I have also been busy preparing our display for the library headquarters in
Manalapan starting on March 31. So be on the lookout for it... Well hope you find the
following enjoyable and helpful. Please remember to let me know of upcoming events you'd
like me to post - the next bulletin is set for March 17th - and I'll be happy to include
it!

LOCAL HAPPENINGS AND EVENTS

February 19 - The National Association of Retired Federal Employees (NARFE) Chapter 411
will meet at 1 pm in the Veterans of Foreign Wars Hall on Bond Street in Asbury Park. All
postal and federal retirees are invited. Refreshments will be served. Call 431-5264
February 20 - The Friends of Photography will gather at 7:30 pm followed by a meeting
at 8:00 pm in the courtroom of Monmouth Beach Boro Hall on Beach Road. The program will
feature a trip through the Grand Canyon by Ely Herman. Call 922-4926
February 20 - Dr. Lee Ellen Griffith director of Monmouth County Historical Association
will discuss her new book, Images of America: Freehold at the Barnes & Noble on Rt. 9
at 7:30 pm. Call weekdays from 9 am to 4:30 pm 462-1466
February 21 - The Belmar St. Patrick's Day Parade Committee will have a beauty pageant
at 8 pm at Mike Doolan's in Spring Lake Heights. Admission is $5. Call 681-2655 or
681-0729
February 22 - The Wall United Methodist Women will have their annual Souper Day
featuring homemade soups, chili and desserts from 10 am to 2 pm at the church at 2414 Old
Mill Road. Take out only. Call 938-5762 0r 938-6394
February 22 - Cerebral Palsy of New Jersey will sponsor its Touch Football Classic from
8 am to 7 pm today and tomorrow at Giants Stadium. Local teams (players must be at least
18) are invited to participate. The entry fee is $600. For info call (201)674-1150
February 23 - Georgian Court College sponsors the 16th Annual Irish Afternoon featuring
the Bog Trotters. The event begins at 2 pm and will run to 5 pm. Fee is $7 a person and a
check payable to Georgian Court College (with a SASE) at Office of Special Events, 900
Lakewood Ave, Lakewood NJ, 08701
February 23 - The Belmar St. Patrick's Day Parade Committee will have a fundraiser at 4
pm at the Tides Cafe on Rt. 35 in Neptune. Complimentary cocktails, hot and cold buffet
and entertainment by Joe Finn, Jerry Lynch, Jersey All-Stars, Mike Cusack, Greg Pringle,
Bobby Bluetooth and Little Joe. Cost is $5 in advance and $7.50 at the door. Call 775-8887
March 1 - The Belmar St. Patrick's Day Parade Committee will have a St. Patrick's Day
Parade Investiture Mass at 10 am at St. Rose Church on 7th Ave Belmar. A luncheon will
immediately follow at Mike Doolan's Restaurant in Spring Lake Heights. Cost is $15. Call
280-2648
March 2 - The Belmar St. Patrick's Day Parade on Main Street begins at 12 noon. Come
and enjoy bands, floats, bagpipers and more!
March 3 - The New Jersey Antique Radio Club will meet at 7:30 pm at Grace Lutheran
Church on the corner of Park Ave (Rt.33) and West Main St. in Freehold. Call 462-6638
March 5 - Lone Keep Internet will be presenting a seminar at the Monmouth County
Eastern Branch Library on Rt. 35 in Shrewsbury at 7 pm. The speaker will be Larry Henley
and the discussion will cover the Internet and how you can use it. Call 842-5995
March 8 - The Ladies Auxiliary of the Shark River Hills Fire Co. will have their annual
craft fair from 9 am to 3 pm at the firehouse. Tables and spaces are still available at
$15 and $10 respectively. Call Jennifer at 776-7313
March 8 - Christian Brothers Academy in Lincroft will have craft show. Spaces are still
available. For info call Mary at 544-9264 for appliations.
March 11 - The Bayberry Garden Club meets at 10:30 am at Curtis House Union Lane in
Brielle. Lunch will be served and the theme is Forced Flowers. Karen Gartian will present
Growing, Harvesting and Working with Dried Flowers at 1 pm. New members are welcome
March 13 - The Jersey Shore Storytellers will meet at 7:30 pm at the United Methodist
Church on Broad St. in Red Bank. Call 922-0001

RoseGardens, now's the time to consider what to do with the roses that had just surged and
made all those new branches. You might want to consider NOT cutting them, instead they can
be pegged to increase their buds so that you'll have more blooms this Spring! First
measure their height and whether they can be gently lowered to near ground level and
placed in a lateral position,if they can you're cooking! Let me know.
